Dalian Acid-Resistant Pump: Corrosion & Temperature Resistance Adaptation Requirements and Application Guidelines

As an important base of China’s pump and valve industry, Dalian’s acid-resistant pumps are widely used in chemical, metallurgical, electroplating, environmental protection and other fields. The core demand is to cope with corrosion and temperature challenges of complex media. This paper systematically elaborates the adaptation requirements of Dalian acid-resistant pumps from three aspects: corrosion resistance adaptation, temperature resistance adaptation and key selection points.

I. Corrosion Resistance Adaptation: Matching Medium Characteristics

Strong alkalis: Sodium hydroxide (NaOH), potassium hydroxide (KOH). Metal materials prone to alkali reaction shall be avoided.

Salt solutions: Sodium chloride (NaCl), copper sulfate (CuSO₄), etc. Pitting corrosion risk caused by chloride ions shall be considered.

Solid-containing media: Ore pulp, sludge, etc. Both corrosion resistance and wear resistance shall be ensured.

2. Material Selection and Matching

Common materials and applicable scenarios for Dalian acid-resistant pumps:

Stainless steel series: 304 for dilute nitric acid and weak organic acid (pH>4); 316L resistant to chloride corrosion for moderately corrosive media such as dilute sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid; duplex stainless steel (2205) for high-concentration salt solutions and strongly oxidizing acids.

Fluoroplastic series: F46 (FEP) and PVDF feature excellent strong corrosion resistance, applicable to concentrated hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, concentrated nitric acid, especially for leak-free working conditions.

Ceramic materials: Alumina ceramic and silicon carbide ceramic offer high wear and strong corrosion resistance, suitable for conveying solid particle-containing strong acid media such as ore pulp.

Rubber-lined materials: Natural rubber for weak alkali and non-oxidizing acid; butyl rubber with excellent acid resistance for dilute sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid.

3. Compatibility Verification

Static corrosion tests or on-site simulation tests shall be conducted before selection to verify material-medium compatibility under actual working conditions. For instance, 316L stainless steel suffers rapid corrosion in room-temperature concentrated hydrochloric acid, requiring replacement with fluoroplastic or ceramic materials.

II. Temperature Resistance Adaptation: Balancing Material and Sealing Performance

Temperature directly affects material physical properties and medium corrosivity. Material selection shall match medium temperature and temperature resistance grade.

1. Material Temperature Resistance Range

Stainless steel: 304/316L: -20℃~200℃; duplex stainless steel: up to 250℃.

Fluoroplastic: F46 max 120℃; PVDF up to 150℃ (short-term).

Ceramic: Alumina ceramic resistant to over 800℃ high temperature.

Rubber lining: Natural rubber ≤80℃; butyl rubber ≤120℃.

2. Sealing System Adaptation

Seals tend to age and fail at high temperatures, so proper sealing materials are required:

Mechanical seal: Graphite-silicon carbide friction pair with fluororubber or perfluoroelastomer sealing ring, suitable for working conditions below 150℃.

Magnetic seal: Non-contact structure avoiding high-temperature leakage, applicable to strongly corrosive media below 200℃.

Packing seal: PTFE packing, suitable for low-temperature (≤80℃) and low-pressure conditions.

3. Corrosivity-Temperature Correlation

High temperature accelerates medium corrosion rate. For example, 316L stainless steel tolerates 5% dilute sulfuric acid at room temperature, while its corrosion rate rises sharply at 80℃, requiring fluoroplastic pumps instead. Material grade shall be upgraded when temperature exceeds conventional tolerance.

III. Comprehensive Selection and Maintenance Key Points

1. Pump Type Selection

Centrifugal pump: For low solid content and large flow rate, suitable for acid liquid conveying in chemical processes.

Magnetic pump: Shaft-seal-free and zero-leakage design, applicable to toxic and flammable media such as hydrofluoric acid.

Diaphragm pump: Pneumatically driven, suitable for solid particle-containing and high-viscosity media such as electroplating sludge.

Self-priming pump: No priming required, ideal for intermittent conveying.

2. Installation and Maintenance

Installation: Avoid extra load on pump body and ensure stress-free inlet and outlet pipelines; install cooling systems such as mechanical seal cooling jackets for high-temperature conditions.

Maintenance: Regularly inspect pump corrosion and replace aged seals; avoid dry running to prevent damage from dry friction; install filters for solid-containing media to reduce wear.

The adaptation of Dalian acid-resistant pumps shall be based on medium characteristics, combined with temperature, flow rate, head and other parameters to select appropriate materials and pump types.
