   # Practical Strategies for Extending the Service Life of Dalian Pump Parts

As core equipment in industrial production and civil applications, pumps rely heavily on the service life of their components, which directly affects operational efficiency, maintenance costs, and production continuity. As a coastal industrial city, Dalian widely uses pumps in chemical engineering, ports, seawater desalination, municipal water supply and other scenarios. Most working media are corrosive (e.g., chloride ions in seawater), high-temperature or high-viscosity, making component wear particularly prominent. This paper explores specific methods to extend the service life of Dalian pump parts from the perspectives of model selection, installation, maintenance and other dimensions.


## I. Scientific Selection: Adaptation to Working Conditions Is Fundamental

Component service life starts with **correct selection** rather than expensive selection. Selection shall be based on typical local working conditions in Dalian:

## II. Standardized Installation: Details Determine Service Life

Improper installation is one of the main causes of early component failure:

1. **Cleaning and protection**: Remove oil and impurities from part surfaces before installation to prevent particles from entering bearings or sealing gaps. Given the humid coastal environment in Dalian, parts shall be treated with anti-rust measures such as applying anti-rust grease.

1. **Avoid idling and overload**: Open the inlet valve and close the outlet valve (for centrifugal pumps) before startup to prevent idling cavitation. Monitor motor current during operation to avoid exceeding the rated value and prevent bearing burnout due to overload.

2. **Smooth start and stop**: Close the outlet valve before powering off the pump to avoid water hammer damage to the pump casing and impeller. Frequent starts and stops accelerate seal wear and shall be minimized.

3. **Medium parameter control**: Strictly control medium temperature and pH within rated ranges. For example, if the medium temperature of seawater desalination pumps exceeds 50℃, a cooling system shall be installed to prevent seal aging.


## V. Timely Troubleshooting: Stopping Losses at an Early Stage

Common faults and solutions:

1. **Seal leakage**: For mechanical seal leakage, replace sealing components if the rotating and stationary rings are worn. For O-ring aging, replace sealing rings of suitable materials in time.

2. **Abnormal vibration**: Check whether the impeller is unbalanced (e.g., with attached impurities), whether the coupling is aligned, and whether bearings are worn, then correct or replace parts in time.

3. **Impeller wear**: Install fine screens at the inlet if wear is caused by sandy media. For severe wear, replace impellers with wear-resistant materials such as ceramic impellers.


## VI. Material Upgrading: Customized Solutions for Longer Service Life

For Dalian’s special working conditions, material upgrading can be applied to components:

- **Chemical pump impellers**: Silicon carbide ceramic materials with excellent acid and alkali resistance and high wear resistance;

- **Seawater pump shaft sleeves**: Hastelloy alloy, which offers better chloride ion corrosion resistance than stainless steel;

- **Sealing rings**: Perfluoroether rubber (FFKM) for extreme temperatures and highly corrosive media.
