How to match the flow rate and head of Dalian acid resistant pump with actual needs

The core of matching the flow rate and head of Dalian acid resistant pumps is to ensure that the rated parameters of the pump cover the maximum requirements of actual working conditions, while avoiding energy waste caused by excessive selection.

This issue is crucial as it directly affects the operational efficiency and service life of the equipment. Choosing a smaller size will not meet production needs, while choosing a larger size will increase costs and the risk of malfunctions.

1、First, clarify the actual demand parameters

Before selecting, two core data points must be accurately calculated or determined: the actual required flow rate (Q) and head (H).

Determine actual traffic demand (Qactual)

Based on the maximum flow rate of the production process, such as the maximum feed/discharge speed of the storage tank, the circulation volume of the reaction kettle, etc.

Considering a margin of 10% -20%, obtain the selected flow rate of the pump (Qelect), that is, Qelect=Qreal × (1.1-1.2). This is to cope with process fluctuations or later capacity increases.

Determine the actual head demand (H actual)

The head demand is the sum of multiple resistances and cannot be calculated solely based on the conveying height.

Calculation formula: H=conveying height (static head)+pipeline resistance loss+local resistance loss+outlet pressure demand.

Similarly, a margin of 10% -20% should be added to obtain the selected head of the pump (H selection), which is H selection=H actual x (1.1-1.2).

2、Core matching principle

After obtaining the selected flow rate (Q selection) and selected head (H selection), it is necessary to match them with the performance curve of the pump, following the following principles:

The operating point falls within the high-efficiency zone

Each pump has a performance curve, which indicates the head and efficiency corresponding to different flow rates.

It is necessary to ensure that the selected operating points (Q-selection, H-selection) fall within the high-efficiency range of the pump performance curve. Efficient zone operation can ensure low energy consumption, low noise, and slow wear of the pump.

Avoid 'big horses pulling small cars'

It is prohibited to choose pumps that far exceed the demand. For example, a pump with a capacity of 10m ³/h and a head of 20m was chosen instead of the actual requirement.

An excessively large pump can cause the actual flow and head to exceed demand during operation, and can only be adjusted by closing the outlet valve. This can result in energy waste and may also cause liquid overheating and cavitation in the pump due to long-term low load operation.

Correction of medium characteristics

Acid resistant pumps transport corrosive liquids, and the head needs to be adjusted based on the density and viscosity of the medium (the performance curve of a water pump is based on water testing).

The higher the viscosity, the lower the actual head, and it is necessary to increase the head margin appropriately when selecting; Density has no effect on head, but it can affect the shaft power of the pump, so it is necessary to choose a matching motor based on this.

3、Common Misconceptions and Precautions

Misconception 1: Only choose the head based on the conveying height. Neglecting pipeline resistance (such as pipeline length and diameter) and local resistance (such as valves, elbows, filters) resulted in insufficient actual head.

Misconception 2: The flow rate and head are just about the same. Parameter mismatch can directly lead to production interruption or long-term overload damage to the pump, resulting in higher maintenance costs.

Attention: If there are flow or head fluctuations during the conveying process (such as intermittent feeding), it is necessary to choose a pump with a gentle performance curve to avoid the operating point deviating too much from the high-efficiency zone.
