Dalian chemical pumps play a crucial role in industrial production, as insufficient flow can directly affect production efficiency and product quality.
1、 Entrance system issues
1. Blockage of inlet pipeline
Blockage of the inlet pipeline is one of the common causes of insufficient flow. Chemical media may contain solid particles, crystals, or sediments that gradually accumulate on the inner walls of pipelines, reducing the effective flow area. Especially when transporting media with high viscosity, easy crystallization, or containing solid particles, it is more common.
Solution: Regularly clean the inlet pipeline, install suitable filters, and replace them regularly. For easily crystallizable media, it is possible to consider adding insulation or heat tracing systems.
2. The inlet valve is not fully opened or damaged
The incomplete opening of the inlet valve will limit the amount of medium flowing into the pump body. In addition, damage to internal components of valves (such as valve disc detachment and valve stem fracture) can also cause similar phenomena.
Solution: Check and ensure that the inlet valve is fully open, regularly maintain the valve, and replace damaged parts if necessary.
3. Improper design of inlet pipeline
Too small a pipe diameter, too many bends, or too long a pipe can increase fluid resistance, leading to insufficient flow. The presence of "gas pockets" (gas accumulation at high points of the pipeline) in the inlet pipeline can also hinder the flow of the medium.
Solution: Redesign the pipeline system to ensure appropriate pipe diameter and simple path. Install exhaust valves at high points to eliminate airbag phenomena.
4. Low liquid level
When the suction liquid level is lower than the installation height of the pump, it may cause insufficient pressure at the pump suction port, which cannot form sufficient flow.
Solution: Adjust the installation height of the pump or increase the liquid level in the supply tank to ensure that the NPSH (net positive suction head) requirements of the pump are met.
2、 Internal issues with the pump body
1. Wear or corrosion of impeller
Long term transportation of corrosive or solid particle containing media by chemical pumps can cause wear or corrosion on the impeller surface, alter its hydraulic characteristics, and reduce pump efficiency.
Solution: Regularly check the condition of the impeller, choose materials that are more wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant (such as stainless steel, ceramic coating, etc.), and replace the impeller if necessary.
2. Wear of the mouth ring
Wear of the mouth ring (also known as the sealing ring) can lead to an increase in internal reflux of the pump, resulting in a decrease in effective output flow. This is particularly common when transporting media containing abrasive particles.
Solution: Check and replace worn mouth rings, select mouth ring materials and gap designs that are suitable for the characteristics of the medium.
3. Mechanical seal leakage
Mechanical seal failure can lead to medium leakage, causing not only insufficient flow but also potential safety issues.
Solution: Check and replace the damaged mechanical seal to ensure that the sealing system is working properly.
4. Internal blockage of pump body
Similar to pipeline blockage, the interior of the pump body (especially the impeller flow channel) may also be blocked by impurities in the medium.
Solution: Disassemble the pump body for thorough cleaning, and add a filtration system if necessary.
3、 Operational parameter issues
1. Insufficient rotational speed
Motor failure, belt slippage, or improper frequency converter settings can all cause the actual pump speed to be lower than the design value, directly affecting the flow rate.
Solution: Check the motor and transmission system to ensure that the speed meets the design requirements. Measure the actual speed using a tachometer.
2. Changes in dielectric properties
Changes in the viscosity, density, or temperature of the medium can affect the performance of the pump. For example, an increase in medium viscosity will significantly reduce flow rate.
Solution: Verify the medium parameters and adjust the operating parameters of the pump or replace it with a suitable pump type if necessary.
3. Increased system resistance
Reduced valve opening in the outlet pipeline, clogged filters, or changes in user demand can increase system resistance, leading to a decrease in flow rate.
Solution: Check the resistance distribution of the entire system, adjust the valve opening, clean or replace the filter.
4、 Cavitation phenomenon
Cavitation is a common problem in chemical pumps. When the inlet pressure of the pump is lower than the saturated vapor pressure of the medium, bubbles will be generated, which will rupture in the high-pressure zone and cause impact, not only reducing the flow rate but also damaging the internal components of the pump.
Solution:
Increase the inlet pressure (such as raising the liquid level in the supply tank)
Reduce the temperature of the medium
Choose a pump type with lower NPSHr (required net positive suction head)
Increase the inlet pipe diameter to reduce the resistance of the inlet pipeline
5、 Air enters the system
1. Leakage in the inlet pipeline
Any leakage in any part of the inlet pipeline may cause air to enter, resulting in air entrapment and hindering the normal transport of the medium.
Solution: Check all inlet connection parts, tighten flanges or replace seals.
2. Leakage of stuffing box
Excessive wear of the packing seal may cause air to be drawn into the pump.
Solution: Adjust or replace the packing to ensure appropriate sealing pressure.
6、 Improper selection
One of the fundamental reasons for insufficient flow is that the initial selection of the pump does not match the actual operating conditions. Possible issues include:
The selection of flow rate and head is too large or too small
Pump type not suitable for medium characteristics
Improper material selection leads to premature damage
Solution: Re evaluate the operating parameters and replace with a more suitable pump type if necessary. Consult professional pump manufacturers for selection recommendations.
7、 Electricity issues
Voltage instability, phase imbalance, or abnormal power frequency can all lead to insufficient motor output power, indirectly affecting the flow rate of the pump.
Solution: Check the quality of the power supply to ensure stable voltage and frequency, and add voltage stabilizing equipment if necessary.
8、 Installation issues
Incorrect installation may result in:
Stress transmission from import and export pipelines to pump body
Unstable foundation causes vibration
Increased mechanical losses due to defects in the center
Solution: Recheck the installation quality to ensure that the pipeline support is independent, the foundation is firm, and the alignment is precise.
9、 Insufficient maintenance and upkeep
Lack of regular maintenance can lead to various potential problems gradually worsening, ultimately resulting in insufficient traffic.
Solution: Establish a comprehensive preventive maintenance plan, including regular inspections, lubrication, component replacement, etc.
10、 The problem of parallel operation of multiple pumps
When multiple pumps are running in parallel, significant differences in performance curves or improper operation may result in insufficient flow of some pumps.
Solution: Ensure that the performance curve of the parallel pump matches, optimize the operating strategy, and avoid the phenomenon of "water grabbing".
There are various reasons for insufficient flow of chemical pumps, ranging from simple operational issues to complex system design defects. Solving this problem requires a systematic troubleshooting approach: first check simpler possibilities (such as valve status, power connections), and then gradually delve deeper into more complex issues (such as cavitation, system resistance distribution, etc.). Regular maintenance and proper operation are better practices to prevent insufficient traffic. When encountering difficult problems, it is necessary to contact the pump manufacturer or professional maintenance personnel in a timely manner to avoid causing greater losses due to improper maintenance.
